Years ago Dwayne Johnson was in talks to play a role in a DC Comics movie, originally people thought it would be Lobo but it was eventually revealed to be Black Adam in the Shazam! film. It was then announced recently that Johnson wouldn’t be appearing in the Shazam film but instead in a Black Adam solo film.
The director of Shazam! David Sanberg has been talking about the film and said that it will be “lighthearted,” and “a departure” from most…. three of the DCEU films (Wonder Woman not included).
“The big attraction for me with that character is the fact that every kid dreams of being Superman, right? I mean I certainly did, and (Billy Batson) is a kid that gets that chance,” Sanberg said to the Toronto Sun. “He gets to become the superhero. So it’ll be big with superpowers in a way. In terms of what people can expect, I think this will be one of the more fun or lighthearted movies so far in the DC universe. It certainly will be a departure.”
Shazam! is set for a release sometime in 2019.
