Defenders #1 Review

(W) Brian Michael Bendis

(A) David Marquez

(CA) Justin Ponsor

(L) VC’s Cory Petit

The Defenders are back, after an old threat comes back for them all and when I say old, I mean their last canon appearance was over 30 years ago.

First things first, this book is very Bendis, if I gave this book to you without telling you the writer you’d say this was a Bendis book, so if you’re not a fan of his style this book isn’t for you. Now that’s out of the way, the dialoguein this issue is very witty and pretty fun, the way in which the characters are brought together is actually pretty cool as well. On top of that, the aforementioned villain is actually pretty cool, especially with the redesign of the character. My one complaint would be that the way this issue ends seems super contrived but that may just be me.

In terms of artwork the common thread continues, it’s great but nothing mind-blowing (maybe I’ve been spoiled with the art on some books I’ve been reading recently), though the colours do massively enhance this issue.

Ultimately this issue was solid and action-packed – I’m super interested as to where this goes.
