Old Man Logan #21 Review

We’re now reaching the end of Jeff Lemire ‘staring tenure as the writer on this book, this is the first issue of his final arc which is called “Past Lives”.

First things first, this issue is pretty badass, the issue’s mostly fast-paced and a pretty easy read. The story at the centre of it is pretty simple, the stakes aren’t even that high until a decent way through the issue. Despite all of that, it still manages to be interesting, particularly in the way that it presents the history of Logan. My one problem with this is how there doesn’t seem to be a massive amount of weight to the story right now, especially considering how it’s meant to be part of an ‘epic conclusion’ to Lemire on this book. Though saying that, I can see how when the four issues come together to could feel pretty epic but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
The art on this book is pretty nice, it’s not as crazy as the Sorrentino, Maiolo pairing but Nyugen and Mossa still do a really good job on this issue. The art gives an impression of roughness that really suits the book and the colours set the tone of the book well and at times are actually beautiful at certain points.
Ultimately this is a really good starting point to this arc, Lemire’s definitely finishing strong.

Score: 8/10
