Hot off the heels of the immensely successful “Heroes vs Aliens” crossover between all four DC CW shows “Supergirl”, “The Flash”, “Arrow” and “Legends of Tomorrow”. But before the DC TV renaissance the only prominent television series on the WB/CW was “Smallville,” the tale of a pre-Superman Clark Kent. It’s other successful Vertigo-esque series was “Supernatural” which followed hunters of the occult Sam and Dean Winchester as they hunted monsters and saved people.
According to a former “Supernatural” production assistant, the Flash and Green Arrow team up in 2014 wasn’t the first superhero team up that was originally planned. Jackson Stewart recalled that once there was talk of a crossover between “Supernatural” and “Smallville.”
“There was a lot of really cool ideas that some of the writers had,” Stewart told EW. “They had an episode where they really wanted to do a Superman curse that was about every actor who plays Superman ends up getting killed. So they find out that Tom Welling from ‘Smallville’ is next and have to save him. I thought that was one of the funniest ideas that I’d heard.”
Smallville wrapped up its ten year run five years ago in May of 2011, while Supernatural is currently in its twelfth season.
